Are cortisone injections in my other non-operated him acceptable or should I
refuse them?
-
Dr. Jinnah: I
am not keen on patients having Cortizone shots intra-articularly in the hip joint
so I would not encourage that.
-
Are
cortizone shots detrimental to the hip joint? Should potential HR patients avoid
it? Pros and cons?
-
Dr.
Jinnah: Cortizone shots into the hip joint per se should be avoided once degenerative
disease has already occurred. It is difficult to do and is often done under fluoroscopic
control and therefore avoided. However Cortizone shots in the trochanteric bursa
can be very good and can actually relieve symptoms related to bursitis significantly.

there any supplements or treatments that can repair the cartilage in my hip?
-
Dr.
Jinnah: There are at present no real supplements or treatments that can repair
cartilage in the hip.
-
Are
there any medications or supplements that should be avoided in the weeks and
months prior to surgery?
-
Dr.
Jinnah: There are medications and supplements that should be avoided prior to
your surgery in particular any medications or supplements that causes thinning
of your blood such as Coumadin. There are a lot of herbal medicines that also
do this and you would have to check into that in particular.
