John S. Rogerson, M.D., graduated Phi Beta Kappa magna cum laude from Dartmouth
College with a Bachelors of Science degree and as a Rufus Choate Scholar. He
received his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical School and was
a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. His internship was completed
at McKennan Hospital in South Dakota and his orthopaedic residency the University
of Wisconsin Hospitals. Dr. Rogerson is board certified by the American Board
of Orthopaedic Surgery and serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University
of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
Dr. Rogerson has practiced orthopaedic medicine in Madison for more than 24 years.
A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Rogerson specializes
in care of the shoulder, hip and knee with expertise in hip resurfacing, arthroscopic
surgery, sports medicine, reconstructive surgery and joint replacement.
Dr. Rogerson has been an innovator in the area of arthroscopic surgery of
the shoulder and has introduced several new techniques to the national Shoulder
Arthroscopy Study Group.
In addition to authoring several chapters in medical textbooks on arthroscopic
surgical technique, Dr. Rogerson has given many presentations to national physician
groups and has been particularly active in the Arthroscopy Association of North
America (AANA). He enjoys teaching other surgeons about arthroscopic surgical
techniques and has been a Master Instructor at the Orthopaedic Learning Center

As an active member of AANA, Dr. Rogerson served on the Association's Board
of Directors from 1996 to 1999. He also served on the Education Committee from
1991 to 1993, and as chairman of the Membership Committee from 1995 to 1999.
Dr. Rogerson currently is secretary of the Board of Directors of AANA, vice-chair
of the Orthopaedic Learning Center Committee and a member of the Health Policy
Committee in 2003 and 2004.
His more recent arthroscopic interests include cartilage preservation and
regeneration techniques, and arthroscopy of the hip to forestall arthritis.
At the other end of the spectrum from the truly minimally invasive arthroscopic
surgery, Dr. Rogerson is a well respected reconstructive surgeon of the shoulder,
hip and knee. He has been one of area's more active total joint replacement surgeons,
utilizing state-of-the-art laminar air flow and hood filtration systems in all
of his cases to lessen the potential for infection. He was one of the first surgeons
in the region to utilize computer-generated, custom, total joint replacements
in selected cases. Currently, he is advancing minimally invasive techniques into
the joint replacement area and is a leading physician in Birmingham hip resurfacing.

Dr. Rogerson and his wife, Cindy, have two children: Kyle and Joanna. Kyle
graduated from the University of Washington and is an Industrial Designer living
in Seattle. Joanna is a certified physician assistant and has been working in
Dr. Rogerson's office for three years. Cindy has been an active volunteer in
the Madison community since arriving in 1976. She worked as the Director of Tourism
and Volunteers for the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center for three
years. She presently helps out working part-time for Dr. Rogerson's office.
In his spare time, Dr. Rogerson enjoys tennis, boating, sailing and artwork.
He produced the medical illustrations for his total hip and knee educational
pamphlets in his office.
