Dr. Andrew J. Shimmin, M.D.

Mr. Andrew Shimmin is an Australian and Internationally trained Orthopaedic Surgeon. He graduated from Monash University Medical School in 1985 and did his early postgraduate Training at Prince Henry’s and the Alfred Hospital.

He commenced the Orthopaedic Training Program of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 1991, completing this training in 1994. He then gained international experience in the USA, Europe and in England.

In 1996 he commenced private practice as a member of the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group and is a director of their research foundation

He specialises in the treatment of injuries to the knee (ligament, cartilage) and hip, arthritis surgery and joint replacement including a special expertise in hip resurfacing

He is involved in research of hip resurfacing, cartilage regeneration and growth factors for knee pathology.

He regularly presents at national and international orthopaedics meetings on hip resurfacing/replacement and cartilage repair

He is currently on the International Program Development Committee of the International Cartilage research Society
and on international design teams for hip and knee replacements

In 2007 he will present an Instructional Course lecture at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting
in San Diego on the topic of Hip Resurfacing

He is married with 2 children, lives in Bayside Melbourne, still competes in veterans tennis and athletic events and is a golfing tragic
